Torres: 'Althea has very clear ideas about the evolution of BMW'

Jordi Torres declares he is 'motivated and happy' to join BMW in 2016.

The off-season is filled with activities and racing for Jordi Torres, fulfilling various sporting commitments and testing with the Althea Racing Team. It was at the recent Jerez test that he began his new adventure on the BMW S 1000 RR with Althea Racing. He then headed to the EICMA show in Milan before beginning to prepare for the Superprestigio in Barcelona where he will battle with the best of the world and several old MotoGP colleagues. It was at practice for the Superprestigio that Torres had a chance to speak with WorldSBK.com about his package for his second Motul FIM Superbike World Championship campaign.

“Actually, I’m very motivated with this completely new adventure with BMW and the Althea team. We have a large project with a lot to do,” said Torres who had his first encounter with his new bike in the two day test held at the Andalusian track of Jerez a few weeks ago. “I have to evolve and grow, but the BMW is already a good base, we have a good chassis and the bikes is very fast but we need to manage how all that power gets to the asphalt, we need to work on the electronics to manage the bike to be as smooth as possible."

A new team and new challenges but the pilot from Rubi (Barcelona) is clear: “Until now I’ve had a package that was already complete, on an Aprilia that was born only for racing; now it’s completely different: my chance to work and develop the bike, keep trying to improve it, people take me very seriously when I say what way we should go, I have to work and choose my words carefully!”

“But that’s the beauty, everything changes, we meet new people but I’m still enlisted in World Superbike, which I’m totally in love with and where I am very happy. That was my goal, to stay in Superbike and to have the best chances I could, with such a professional team like Althea with BMW and factory support.”

Besides Althea Racing, who will run Torres and Markus Reiterberger, the German manufacturer will also be run by Milwaukee BMW, who will also carry the title of being an ‘official’ team. On a possible collaboration between the teams to establish a clear way forward to develop the bike, the Spaniard believes: “We will now see the commitment between teams that have the same brand of bike to develop and whether or not to share information. But I know that Althea was very clear about how they do it and have very clear ideas about the evolution of BMW, they have a lot of experience as to what happens.  I am more than confident that my team will take a good direction to be as far forward as possible.”
